There is a law that truck drivers may not drive more than 14 hours in a 24 hour period, causing a 10 hour parking need. When drivers are tired they may be dangerous drivers, so 10 hour parking is needed for long distance truck drivers. Recent articles lamented the lack of enough 10 hour parking spaces, so truck drivers lose time (sometimes hours) looking for parking and sometimes end up on unsuitable roads while trying to return to the highway after an unsuccessful attempt to park.
Considering the under-utilized strip shopping centers near highways, as well as closed rest areas, there is an opportunity to make more 10 hour parking available. Also, existing locations which frequently reach capacity could be expanded.
Also, these 10 hour truck parking spaces could be connected to an app which can identify empty parking spaces and maybe even reserve them.
