Recent train wrecks and people getting killed by trains have been in the news, becoming a major headache for America's railways. The wrecks and rollovers might be mitigated if a way were found to make the railroad tracks "feel" the trespassers or blocking objects. The idea would work like this:

Why is this a priority and what are the benefits for the State/County/City?

Potential lifesaver. Potential cost saver (due to fewer losses to equipment). Possibly fewer complaints. Could reduce delays due to crash investigations and thus traffic/overcrowding.

NJ needs more 10 hour Truck parking In Reserve

There is a law that truck drivers may not drive more than 14 hours in a 24 hour period, causing a 10 hour parking need. When drivers are tired they may be dangerous drivers, so 10 hour parking is needed for long distance truck drivers. Why is this a priority and what are the benefits for the State/County/City?

Safety: by helping truckers find 10 hour parking before they get sleepy.
Economic: It can help the economy because with ample 10 hour parking, the truckers can make progress delivering their goods rather than spend time looking to comply with the 10 hour law.

Why is this a priority and what are the benefits for the State/County/City?

The safety of our customers and crews is a top priority at NJ TRANSIT. Identifying and prioritizing the grade crossings with the most crashes and developing concept plans for improvements that can be implemented will help improve safety and having concept plans will allow us to work jointly with roadway owners and communities to see that the improvements are implemented.
